Throughout the course of this program we’ve only explored a very small sampling of all the different tools that exist out there. If we had the time, there are sooo many more we could explore. (And if you’re this far into the program, I think you know what I mean.) Jane Hart’s annual survey of the Top 100 Tools for Learning is compiled from the contributions of learning professionals worldwide.
Although only time will tell which of these new collaborative, social networking and information tools will remain on top, one thing is for sure, they’re not going to go away anytime soon.

For this discovery exercise, select any site from the Top 100 Tools for Learning list and explore it. If you like, you can also browse Jane’s Directory of Learning & Performance tools that has over 2,000 tools. With so many to choose from, it might be handy to first select a category that interests you (like Presentation tools or Personal Organizers) and then simply select a tool/site to explore. The majority of these are free, and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something that is new to you.
If you’d like a few suggestions. Here are a few tools that I’ve found very useful.
- Canva – amazingly simple graphic design
- Google Docs – The easiest way to collaborate on documents.
- Trello – a great, easy to use tool for managing workflows. Shows at a glance who is doing what.
- IFTTT (If This Then That) – is a service that lets you connect different web apps (like Twitter, Facebook, Evernote, Dropbox, etc.) together through simple conditional statements known as “Recipes”. Check out “How to Be 100x More Productive: The 35 Best IFTTT Recipes“
- Join.me – dead simple online meetings and screen sharing. It’s so easy, even my dad can use it!
- Select any site/tool from the Top 100 Tools for Learning or the Directory of Learning & Performance tools .
- Explore the site you selected.
